SAN DIEGO – Mayor Todd Gloria today announced that he has tapped City Councilmember Marni von Wilpert and attorney Gil Cabrera to serve on the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority Board of Directors. He also announced that current Board Member Johanna Schiavoni will serve as Chair, replacing April Boling, who will step down from the Board at the end of the month.

Councilmember von Wilpert’s appointment requires the approval of the City Council.

“Councilmember Marni von Wilpert, Johanna Schiavoni and Gil Cabrera have all long demonstrated a steadfast commitment to improving quality of life for all San Diegans,” Mayor Gloria said. “Each of these appointees brings considerable enthusiasm and expertise to the task of helping guide the Airport Authority into the future as we work to modernize San Diego International Airport and integrate all of our regional transportation modes in the coming years. I’d like to offer my gratitude to April Boling for her leadership and her many years of dedicated service to the Authority.”

Marni von Wilpert said:

“I’m honored to serve on the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority to continue addressing the long-term needs of the San Diego International Airport. Our airport remains the main gateway for travelers coming to San Diego for business and leisure. I look forward to making sure San Diego’s air transportation is safe, reliable and sustainable so that our tourism economy thrives.”

Gil Cabrera said:

“I’m honored to be appointed by Mayor Gloria to the Airport Authority Board to help oversee this regional asset at such a critical time, as it undertakes the redevelopment of Terminal 1 and becomes an important part of the conversation around modernizing San Diego’s transportation infrastructure.”

Johanna Schiavoni said:

“The Airport Authority is facing a number of significant opportunities and challenges in the coming year, and I’m honored to be selected by Mayor Gloria to help guide the organization, with my fellow board members, through this crucial time.”

April Boling said:

“I am very proud of the Airport Authority’s accomplishments during my Chairmanship, including the completion of the International Arrivals Facility as well as a new lease agreement with the airlines, which have positioned the airport well for the much-needed replacement of Terminal 1. There are many challenges ahead, and I am confident the new Board and leadership will represent the airport and region well.”

Kimberly Becker, President/CEO of the Airport Authority, said:

“We appreciate Mayor Gloria’s thoughtful elevation of Johanna Schiavoni to Board Chair, as well as the appointments of Councilmember Marni von Wilpert and Gil Cabrera. This will help provide the Airport Authority with leadership stability as we work towards the recovery of air travel on behalf of the region.”

The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority manages the day-to-day operations of San Diego International Airport and plans for and provides air transportation services to the region with safe, effective facilities that exceed its customers’ expectations.
