Established in 1983, National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) is an annual tradition to celebrate the U.S. travel community and travel’s essential role in stimulating economic growth, cultivating vibrant communities, creating quality job opportunities, inspiring new businesses and elevating the quality of life for Americans every day. If traveling this week through SAN, here are some things to do while you wait to embark on your next adventure:
Take in ‘Espacios & Lines’ Temporary Art Exhibition: 16 artists from Joshua Tree, CA down to Rosarito, Mexico are showcased throughout Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 for this year’s joint 2024 World Design Capital designation for San Diego/Tijuana. The exhibition explores art and design from the perspective of our unique binational region. You can see a preview of it here.
Take in a live music performance: Live music performances are back at SAN! Our SANarts team curates a diverse lineup with local San Diego musicians for passengers’ enjoyment. Catch them performing at the Sunset Cove in Terminal 2, at Terminal 1, and at the baggage claims. See the performing arts calendar here.
See the New T1 taking shape: Construction for the New Terminal 1 is going by quickly! Currently, you can see the New T1 arrivals roadway being built with its hexagonal base off of North Harbor Dr. Also along N. Harbor Dr., you can see the New T1 Parking Plaza. The parking plaza will add an additional 5200 parking spaces when fully done and the first phase is scheduled to open late this summer! When coming through the temporary Terminal 1 arrivals entrance, you can see the New T1’s “Luminous wave” facade now fully built on the right-hand side of the road. The facade will reflect San Diego sunlight and mimic one of our many waves while also providing glare and UV protection from inside the terminal. The New T1 is now at more than 60 percent completion and the first phase is scheduled to open in 2025.
Visit our concessions: Our concessions are always cooking up specials or have themed seasonal merchandise. Grab some San Diego Padres gear, a book or San Diego trinket, or a bite to eat. Here’s a list of our Green concessions, and our dining and shopping options.
