O, Canada, “The Great White North.” Spanning 3.86 million square miles, our neighbor to the north is home to amazing sights, sounds, sports, food, and people. If you’ve ever enjoyed maple syrup, it likely came from Canada as they produce more than half of the world’s supply of it. Canada has some of the best locations to view the Northern Lights depending on the season. And sports, well ice hockey keeps Canadians busy all year long.

Free Event Connects Small, Local, and Disadvantaged Businesses to Opportunities with San Diego International Airport, Primes, and Airport Authority Partners
San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (Airport Authority) will host eight virtual “Meet the Primes” events between September 14 and 30. First introduced in 2015, “Meet the Primes” is a free annual event for the business community to connect with and learn from, the Airport Authority, the Airport Authority’s partners, San Diego’s small business support service centers, and public agencies.

8/16/2021  San Diego County Regional Airport Authority Accepting Applications for Authority Advisory Committee Positions

The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (Airport Authority) is accepting applications from members of the public to serve on the Airport Authority’s Advisory Committee. There are two vacancies, the term of office for each vacancy is two years beginning October 2021. 

8/13/2021  Mayor Gloria Appoints New Airport Authority Chair

CHAIR GIL CABRERA TO GUIDE BOARD TO ADDRESS REGION’S LONG-TERM AIR INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDS

Today, Mayor Todd Gloria announced that he has appointed Guillermo “Gil” Cabrera to serve as the next Chair of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority Board of Directors, effective Aug. 16. Cabrera currently serves as a Board Member. 

 

8/11/2021  How Low Waste Can You Go?

You may be familiar with the term “zero waste,” but have you heard of “low waste” before? Living a low waste lifestyle means lowering your environmental impact by reducing the amount of waste you produce. While “zero waste” is a specific industry term that requires a 90 percent diversion rate (making sure that 90 percent of the material you no longer need goes to reuse, recycling, or compost instead of to landfill), low waste takes a more flexible, spectrum approach.

7/29/2021  Air Canada Resumes Nonstop Flights to Vancouver from San Diego International Airport

On August 1, Air Canada will resume service between Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada via Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and San Diego International Airport (SAN). The year-round nonstop flights operate once daily. The resumption comes after Air Canada suspended service in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

7/20/2021  San Diego County Regional Airport Authority Celebrates Airline Support Building Completion

Today, the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (Airport Authority) celebrates the completion of the Airline Support Building (ASB), a modern 93,000 square-foot building that houses airline belly cargo, ground service equipment maintenance, and serves as a storage area for aircraft provisioning items. The facility provides a convenient location for the public to pick up and drop off live animals or bulky cargo items shipped in the bellies of passenger jets. Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, Delta Airlines, Lufthansa, and United Airlines/PetSafe are all housed in the facility.

7/15/2021  Arts Program at San Diego International Airport Announces Local Artist Kaori Fukuyama Has Been Selected for Under the Wing Mentorship Program

The Arts Program at San Diego International Airport (SAN) is pleased to announce Kaori Fukuyama, a San Diego-based multi-disciplinary artist has been selected to participate in the new Under the Wing Mentorship Program. Ms. Fukuyama will support selected mentor artist Nova Jiang who has been commissioned to create a permanent public artwork at SAN as part of the planned New T1 program.

6/28/2021  Southwest Airlines Begins Nonstop Flights to Kona, Island of Hawaii and Lihue, Kauai from San Diego International Airport

Yesterday, Southwest Airlines began nonstop service to Kona, Island of Hawaii via Ellison Onizuka Kona International at Keahole Airport (KOA) and Lihue, Kauai via Lihue Airport (LIH) from San Diego International Airport (SAN). Flights to Kona operate Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays until September 27 when they increase to one flight daily. Flights to Lihue operate Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays until September 27 when they increase to one flight daily. Southwest Airlines is also increasing their service to Kahului, Maui from one flight daily to two flights daily.
