San Diego International Airport (SAN) is in the middle of bustling downtown San Diego. So it’s no surprise that due to its location, many residential, office buildings, schools, and community use buildings are within a few miles of the airport. If you’ve ever walked around downtown or enjoyed the open shopping and amenities at Liberty Station, you know airplanes fly overhead quite often on the way to SAN. These moments often call for a pause in conversation until the noise has passed…we locals call it the “Point Loma Pause.”

2/9/2022  Allegiant Air & JetBlue are Relocating to Terminal 2

As construction on the new Terminal 1 progresses, it will be necessary to shift some airlines to other locations at the airport. Please be advised of the following construction impacts beginning February 18, 2022.

2/9/2022  Allegiant Air & JetBlue Airways to Relocate Operations to Terminal 2

Effective February 18, Allegiant Air will operate from Terminal 2 East at San Diego International Airport (SAN). Allegiant’s ticket counter will be located at the west end of the American Airlines ticket counter and the airline will operate from gate 33 post-security. Effective February 24, JetBlue Airways will operate from Terminal 2 West at SAN. JetBlue Airways’ ticket counter will be located at the east end of the Delta Air Lines ticket counter and the airline will operate from gate 34 post-security.

2/8/2022  San Diego International Airport Served 15.6 Million Passengers in 2021

San Diego International Airport (SAN) served 15.6 million passengers in 2021, a 69 percent increase over 2020’s passenger number of 9.2 million. The airport added 18 new routes to both domestic and international destinations and one new carrier. 

2/2/2022  Allegiant Air to Add Nonstop Flights Between Austin and Sioux Falls from San Diego International Airport

Allegiant Air has announced it will add year-round nonstop service between Austin, Texas via Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and San Diego International Airport (SAN) beginning April 20. The airline will also add seasonal nonstop service between Sioux Falls, S.D. via Sioux Falls Regional Airport (FSD) and SAN from May 19 through August 12. 

2/1/2022  James Sly Appointed to Airport Authority Board of Directors

Sly Replaces Robert Lloyd, Whose Three-Year Term Ended January 31, 2022
The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (Airport Authority) welcomes James Sly, President & CEO of East County Economic Development Council (ECEDC) as the newest Airport Authority Board Member effective today. Sly was appointed by East County San Diego mayors to represent the East County on the Board for a three-year term.
