On Wednesday, January 31, 2024, the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (Airport Authority) hosted its FAA-required triennial mass-casualty exercise - Airex 2024 - to simulate an aircraft accident at San Diego International Airport (SAN). Coordinated by the Airport Authority’s Emergency Management team, the training scenario centered around an airplane crash of a fictious airline that was engulfed in flames with 85 passengers onboard.

Passengers are Urged to Plan Ahead
San Diego International Airport (SAN) expects to see more than 700,000 people arriving and departing during the upcoming winter holiday travel week which runs from just before Christmas Day through New Year’s Day. Saturday, December 23, and Saturday, December 30, are anticipated to be the busiest days travel days of the holiday week. The airport anticipates approximately 80,000 people will travel through the SAN each day that week.

San Diego International Airport (SAN) reached a post-pandemic milestone in October 2023 when approximately 6,000 more people traveled through the airport’s TSA checkpoints compared to the same month in 2019. Overall, SAN is seeing a 3 percent increase in passenger volume this year compared to last year.
Officials Sign Steel Beam during Ceremony
Today, the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (Airport Authority) celebrated the completion of the steel structure of the first phase of the new Terminal 1 (New T1). To mark this milestone, officials signed a steel beam that will be among the final beams installed in the first phase.
