Our Benefits
We believe that everyone counts and we count on everyone.
If you are considering a job opportunity with the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, we want you to know that pay only represents a portion of total compensation. The benefits available to you as an Authority employee can assist you while you are working and help you plan for a comfortable retirement. A typical benefits package with the Authority usually represents and additional 40-60% of pay.
Understanding the benefits available to you is the best way to determine if the Authority could be your next employer. Below is a summary of the different benefits offered to all regular, active employees with the Authority.
Health Insurance Program The Authority typically offers two different care plans to provide you and your family with protection when you incur health care expenses. Employees may select from a Preferred Provider Organization or a Health Maintenance Organization. You may elect to cover yourself, yourself plus one other dependent or domestic partner, or yourself and your entire family. These programs include an Employee Assistance Program and prescription drug benefits. We also offer separate dental and vision programs.
The Authority pays 100% of employee only coverage and 55% of your dependents and/or domestic partner (domestic partner premiums may be taxable) of the Authority’s medical and dental programs.
Basic Life Insurance Program The program provides benefits to your survivors if you die on or off the job from accidental or natural causes. The Authority pays 100% of the premium for Basic Life insurance at a level equal to 1x -2 ½x Annual Salary (premiums in excess of $50k is a taxable benefit) based on the position classification. Supplemental and dependent coverage is also available at reasonable cost to the employee.
Leave Programs The Authority offers new employees the opportunity to accrue annual leave for their personal use during the course of employment. Within specific guidelines, employees may use their leave for events such as vacations, illness, injury, and to care for family members. We observe 13 paid holidays each year. Additionally, the Authority provides leave for an on-the-job injury or illness, administers a donated leave program (for catastrophic illness), and provides for court and military Leave. The Authority manages all leave programs in accordance with applicable state & federal law.
Flexible Spending
Accounts (FSA) An FSA enables you to save money on certain health care and dependent care costs by paying for eligible expenses with pre-tax dollars. Since your contributions are deducted from your paycheck before taxes, your taxable income is actually lowered. This means that you pay fewer income taxes and have more money to spend! The maximum you may defer each year is $5,000 for health care expenses and $5,000 for dependent care expenses.
Long Term Care Insurance This voluntary program provides asset protection when someone needs assistance with activities of daily living, such as bathing and dressing, due to an accident, an illness, or advancing age.
Tuition Assistance Program This program allows you to be reimbursed up to $5,000 per calendar year of your tuition expenses. Courses can be taken individually or as part of a degree program.
Commuter Transportation Program To encourage the use of public transportation, mass transit and other environmentally responsible forms of transportation, the Authority offers eligible employees a 50% subsidy for select commuting costs. Transit passes are sold directly to the employee (via pre-tax payroll deduction) at 50% of the cost. Employees not eligible for the 50% subsidy can take advantage of the pre-tax benefit up to the IRS regulation maximum of $120.00.
