Airport Authority to hold major emergency training exercise at San Diego International Airport

WHAT: 

The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority will hold its triennial full-scale emergency exercise on Wednesday, October 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at San Diego International Airport. This exercise will test critical first responders, mutual aid, coordination, communications and recovery related to an emergency scenario at the airport. Smoke, emergency vehicles and personnel, and other aspects of the exercise will be visible by some airport patrons and members of the public. 

WHY: 

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires emergency exercises to be held at least every three years at major airports. This year’s exercise will involve a simulated vehicle bomb that damages a boarding aircraft and gate area at Gate 51 in Terminal 2 West. The exercise will involve more than 140 volunteers and a dozen agencies.

WHEN: 

 Wednesday, October 8, 2014 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. WHERE: San Diego International Airport Terminal 2 parking lot – enter off of McCain Road and Harbor Drive (see attached map) 

NOTE:

Please RSVP to Steve Shultz at (619) 993-4684 no later than Noon on Tuesday, October 7 in order to obtain a parking pass. On Wednesday, October 8, media should proceed to the registration tent by no later than 11:30 a.m. to sign-in and be escorted to the viewing area.
